Russian Tu-160 Bomber Completes 16-Hour Test Flight Near Norway Border

A Russian strategic Tu-160 bomber has completed a 16-hour test flight over the neutral waters of the Barents and Norwegian Seas. The Russian Ministry of Defense described the extended mission as a routine operation, which included complex in-flight refueling maneuvers just outside the territory of NATO member Norway. Throughout the flight, the strategic bomber was closely escorted by a detachment of Russian MiG-31 fighter jets. At several points during the lengthy patrol, the Russian formation was intercepted and shadowed by unidentified foreign aircraft. This risky maneuver underscores the continued military posturing and close-quarters aerial monitoring occurring near Scandinavian borders.
