Salt-Cooked Turkish Coffee Gains Popularity

Turkish coffee cooked in Çankırı’s famous rock salt is drawing significant attention for its unique flavor. Prepared using salt extracted from a Hittite-era salt cave, this coffee is roasted in a sand-salt mixture heated to 350°C, making a distinct taste compared to traditional methods.

Ahmet Uçar, the business owner behind this innovation, stated, “Cooking in salt enhances the taste, making it lighter and more delicious. Customers are delighted with this method, and we prepare it daily in a historical setting.”

A customer, Sümeyye Satılmış, praised the coffee, saying, “It tastes natural, unlike coffee made by machine. I’ve heard it even has health benefits, such as aiding asthma. I recommend everyone try it.”
