Saudi Arabia to Use Drones for Pilgrim Safety During Hajj

Around 3 million pilgrims are expected to attend the day of Arafah, the pinnacle of the Hajj pilgrimage. To prevent stampedes in the 14 square kilometer area, Saudi officials will utilize large drone cameras for surveillance instead of helicopters.

This year, a media fair in Mecca, attended by nearly 2,000 journalists from 80 countries, showcased new civil defense technologies. Saudi authorities will monitor Arafah from the air with drones and helicopters to ensure quick intervention in case of emergencies, ensuring the safety of all pilgrims.
