scorching heatwave burns forests in southwest France

In the forest fires that have been going on for 6 days in the Gironde region in southwest France, 14,000 hectares of land have been destroyed, officials said. At least 4,100 people have been evacuated since the fires started in the town of Landiras. The number of evacuees reached 14,000 throughout the Gironde region, officials added.

The French meteorologist stated yesterday that the temperature rose to 41 degrees in some regions in the south of the country, and 35 degrees in the northwest regions.
