Sculpture Bihar appears in Bilbao’s river, Spain

A sculpture of a drowning woman was placed in the Nervion River in Bilbao, Spain. The sculpture ‘Bihar’ (‘Tomorrow’ in Basque language), which is a giant female head measuring 2 meters, was built by Mexican artist Ruben Orozco. It was ordered by the BBK Foundation as part of a campaign launched to draw attention to climate change and promote sustainability. Depending on the tide, the sculpture is seen by onlookers or disappears under the water. Orozco said the goal of the campaign was to show people that our actions may submerge us or keep us afloat.

Residents of the city says the sculpture makes them feel uneasy as they think the woman wants to end her life with no expression of concern on her face.
