Seljuk-Era Madrasa in Türkiye to Be Rebuilt

Archaeological efforts are underway to rebuild a historic madrasa from the Anatolian Seljuk period in Çorum, Turkey. Çorum Governor Assoc. Dr. Zülkif Dağlı highlighted the significance of the site, noting that it is the only surviving madrasa in Çorum from the Seljuk era. The madrasa, located in the Kalehisar ruins in Mahmudiye village, was a key settlement on the Seljuk caravan route. During a site visit with the excavation team, Governor Dağlı and Excavation Head Assoc. Dr. Mustafa Kemal Şahin discussed the ongoing restoration efforts.

Dr. Şahin pointed out that the madrasa’s structure, which dates back 800 years, requires reinforcement to prevent collapse. Once stabilized, the site will be restored and potentially integrated into cultural tourism. The restoration aims to preserve the madrasa’s historical significance and bring it into public use, enriching the region’s cultural heritage.
