A severe storm packing winds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour has swept through the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, leaving five people dead. The destruction brought down dozens of trees and power lines, tore off roofs, and caused widespread power outages across both states. Fatalities included two people killed by a collapsing wall in Rio de Janeiro, alongside two killed by falling trees and one who died when a boat capsized in São Paulo. Ground and air travel were severely disrupted, forcing road closures as well as suspensions of metro services, port operations, and flights.
