severe wildfires challenge southwestern France

France is fighting the flames at two different points in the Gironde region in the southwestern part of the country. Due to the fire around the town of Landiras, where the most severe fire in the region was experienced, 480 more people were evacuated from their homes, and the roads to entrances and exits were closed. So far, the flames have burned 4,200 hectares of land. The fire near the Dune du Pilat dune in La Teste-de-Buch in the Arcachon Bay region has yet to be extinguished. In the region, 3,100 hectares of land were destroyed. The flames rendered three houses and two restaurants unusable.

While the extinguishing works at two points continue with 9 aircraft and a thousand firefighters, a total of 11,000 people have been evacuated to safe areas so far.
