Siamese twin tortoise found in Turkey’s famed travertines

A tourist visiting the world-famous Pamukkale travertines, which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List, found two tiny tortoises stuck together. The tortoises were determined to be siamese twins by authorities after examination. “It is clearly a Siamese twin. The details show that the digestive system of the tortoises has a single opening, starting from stomach. Likewise, it has only one pair of hind limbs. It is not likely for such animal to survive in nature. We will try to keep it alive in our own labs, and I hope we can. The tortoises have important characteristics” Pamukkale University Biology Department Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Serdar Düşen said.
