Recent oil discoveries in Şırnak, Southeastern Anatolia, align with a historical oil map initiated by the 34th Ottoman Sultan, Abdulhamid II. The region, already known for its rich underground resources, has gained increased attention following discoveries of oil reserves in Gabar, Mount Cudi, Bestler Dereler, Feraşin, and Kato.
Dr. Öykü Bilgin, a Mining Engineer at Şırnak University, highlights the high-quality oil found, exceeding global averages. With current reserves estimated at 1 billion barrels and plans for daily production of 100,000 barrels, Türkiye’s domestic oil production could potentially increase to 25% of the country’s consumption, adding around 8 million dollars daily to the economy.
