Snowstorm Paralyzes Beijing: School Closures and Transit Disruptions

Severe snowfall in Beijing, China led to a suspension of train services, closure of schools, and the initiation of remote learning. The northern cold wave had adverse effects on daily life, prompting primary, secondary schools, and kindergartens in Beijing to transition to remote education due to the frigid weather, spurred by a recurring westward cold wave.

The Beijing Meteorological Observatory forecasted continued heavy snowfall until Saturday. The city issued a blue alert for cold weather and an orange alert for frigid conditions, cautioning drivers to exercise care on the roads. With a population of around 22 million, Beijing advised private firms to adopt flexible work arrangements for employees.

In addition, tourist spots in the mountainous western and northern regions of Beijing closed to visitors due to the snow. Train services experienced disruptions, but operations at Beijing Capital International Airport remained unaffected.
