South African Ambassador Challenges Israel’s Immunity at ICJ

South Africa’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Vusi Madonsela, addressed the International Court of Justice during ongoing hearings on the “Advisory opinion regarding the legal consequences of Israel’s practices in the occupied Palestinian territories.” Madonsela questioned the prolonged immunity Israel has enjoyed against human rights violations, emphasizing the over 50-year occupation of Palestine without sufficient international response. He criticized Israel’s recent military actions in Gaza, highlighting perceived violations of international law and asserting that the country considers itself untouchable. Drawing parallels to apartheid, Madonsela characterized Israel’s policies towards Palestinians as an extreme form of discrimination, aligning with South Africa’s historical struggle against racial injustice.”
