South Korean Assembly Approves Arrest Bill for Top Officials

The South Korean National Assembly approved a bill seeking the arrest of eight high-ranking officials, including President Yoon Suk Yeol, over the controversial martial law decision.

The martial law, declared by Yoon and lifted after six hours, has sparked political turmoil. The assembly, dominated by opposition parties, passed the arrest bill with 191 votes in favor and 94 against. Former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun and former Interior Minister Lee Sang-min are also among the accused.

Additionally, lawmakers approved a proposal to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate sedition charges against Yoon, with 210 votes in favor and 63 against.
