South Korean President Yoon Arrested

The second attempt to arrest President Yoon Suk Yeol, who is under investigation for sedition in South Korea, has been successful. South Korean police announced that despite the objections of the Presidential Security Service (PSS), Yoon was arrested at the presidential residence in Seoul in the morning hours without any conflict arising.

Before being taken to the CIO headquarters in Gwacheon City, Yoon said he agreed to testify to prevent a possible clash between the PSS and the police. “Despite the illegal investigation, I agreed to cooperate with the CIO in order to prevent ugly bloodshed. As the head of state who is responsible for protecting the country’s constitution and legal system, complying with illegal and invalid decisions does not mean that I believe the investigation is legitimate. It is merely an effort to prevent violence,” he added.

The first attempt to arrest Yoon with a court order failed because the PSS did not allow police into the presidential residence.
