South Korean President Yoon Faces Sedition Trial

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol appeared in court for the first hearing of his sedition trial, despite not being required to attend. The case is linked to the martial law crisis that led to his suspension.

The brief 13-minute hearing at Seoul Central District Court focused on procedural arguments. The court scheduled the next session for March 24. Yoon, who is also facing impeachment proceedings, is the first sitting South Korean president to stand trial in a criminal case.
