South Korean President Yoon Released After 52 Days

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was arrested due to the martial law he declared, was released after the court accepted his appeal on the grounds that his detention was illegal.

“I am grateful for the courage and determination of the Seoul Central District Court in correcting this illegal situation,” Yoon said in a written statement released through his legal team.

Yoon was arrested on January 15 after his powers were suspended due to the martial law he declared on December 3, 2024, on the grounds that the opposition was involved in activities against the state.
