South Korean author Han Kang has been awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature for her “intensely poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and reveals the fragility of human life,” as announced by the Swedish Academy in Stockholm. Nobel Committee Chairman Anders Olsson praised Kang for her innovative writing style, which explores the connections between body and soul. Han Kang, known internationally for her novel The Vegetarian, is the first South Korean to win the prestigious literary award. The prize is worth 11 million Swedish kronor.
