Stampede Occurs at Free Ticket Line in India: 6 Dead

A stampede broke out in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India, on January 10, when 4,000 people queued up in front of a ticket booth to get free tickets to a 2,000-year-old temple during the Hindu holiday. According to initial reports, 6 people were killed and dozens were injured.

Some in the crowd had been waiting since Wednesday to visit the temple.
