State of emergency declared in southern Serbia due to heavy rains

A state of emergency was declared in Prijepolje, Novi Pazar and Sjenica due to heavy rains in the Sanjak region in the south of Serbia. Trnavica, Josanica and Raska rivers in the city of Novi Pazar overflowed. Two people were reported missing in the Trnavica River, and search and rescue efforts had been initiated. More than 200 buildings in Sjenica, including houses, schools and apartment buildings, have been flooded. In Prijepolje, people were evacuated from some areas where rivers overflowed.

Authorities warned that precipitation could increase in the coming days. The city government has also warned citizens to stay away from rivers and dangerous bridges.
