Severe rain and strong winds hit New York City, leaving two people dead and causing widespread disruption. Flooding blocked roads, stranded vehicles, and damaged cars as falling tree branches crashed onto streets.
Flights at JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark airports were delayed or canceled due to the storm, which Mayor Eric Adams said broke the city’s October 30 rainfall record. “Most of the expected rain fell in just ten minutes,” Adams noted, adding that the city’s drainage system could not handle the sudden deluge.
Authorities reported that a 43-year-old man drowned in a flooded apartment basement in Manhattan, while another man was found dead in Brooklyn. Weather officials issued flood warnings for coastal areas in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens.
