Storm Destroys 250-Year-Old Historic Tree in Bursa, Türkiye

The 250-year-old historical plane tree in İç Kozahan, constructed in 1492 under Beyazıt II in Bursa to support Istanbul’s historical mosques and madrasahs, succumbed to a storm. Thankfully, the inn, standing for 530 years, was unoccupied during the tree’s fall, averting potential disaster.

The massive tree’s collapse was discovered in pieces by merchants the following morning.

The incident, occurring overnight, forestalled a calamity. Café owners lamented the loss but expressed relief, saying, “Thankfully, it happened at night. If it fell during business hours, the outcome would’ve been different.”

A drone captured the fallen state of the historic tree, previously registered in 2014 at 241 years old.
