Heavy rains in South Africa caused floods and landslides. At least 45 people died in the state of KwaZulu-Natal. Many houses, bridges and roads were destroyed, while shipping containers waiting in the port were toppled. Search and rescue efforts continue in the state, where many vehicles were also swept away by the flood waters.
Most of the power plants in Durban were flooded last night and some water treatment plants were damaged, said Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda. Kaunda stated that works are continuing to restore the water and electricity that were cut off in some parts of the city.
