Historic Submerged Masara Dungeons Await Touristic Exploration in Türkiye

The Masara Dungeons from the Anatolian Seljuk period, located in Suyatagi of the Turkish city of Elazig, are waiting to be eligible for touristic visits. The dungeons, which submerge after the waters rise, have a historical reputation for being the place where the Anatolian Seljuk Sultan Alaattin Keykubat was held captive for 8 years before he became a ruler.

“This is a very important spot for Anatolian Turkish history. The Seljuk Sultan Alaattin Keykubat escaped from captivity here in 1220 after 8 years. Then he took over the Anatolian Seljuk State and began to conquer the Anatolian borders of Today’s Republic of Türkiye,” explained Aygün Çam, Researcher.
