Sudden Temperature Drop Brings Relief to Sweltering Istanbul

Istanbul’s weeks-long, stifling heatwave finally broke this afternoon as a cool northern air mass swept across the city, plunging temperatures by a refreshing 8 degrees. Thermometers that previously registered 32 degrees Celsius rapidly fell as  dark cumulus clouds rolled over the historical peninsula. Stunning time-lapse footage captured this sudden atmospheric shift, showing the clouds beautifully dancing over iconic landmarks like the Hagia Sophia and Galata Tower. As the Bosphorus skyline took on a moody, dark gray hue, residents welcomed the long-awaited visual feast and physical relief. Meteorological authorities predict this cooling trend will intensify overnight, bringing expected scattered showers to the newly refreshed city.
