Supporters of Shiite leader Sadr storm Iraqi parliament

In Iraq, protesters loyal to popular Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr breached Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone, which houses government buildings and foreign embassies. The Sadrists, who opposes Shia al-Sudani, the premiership candidate announced earlier this week by the Coordination Framework, stormed the parliament building in the central Baghdad. Sudani is supported by the other Shiite groups in the country.

Iraqi government urged protesters to leave the zone. The tension remains high in the area, reports said.
