Sweden Officially Becomes 32nd NATO Member

Sweden, which applied for membership in NATO in May 2022 after the war in Ukraine, became the 32nd member of the alliance by submitting its NATO accession documents to the USA.

“Thank you to all allies for welcoming us as the 32nd member. We will strive for unity, solidarity and burden-sharing and fully adhere to the Washington Treaty values: freedom, democracy, individual liberty and the rule of law. We are stronger together,” said Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.

“I look forward to raising the flags at NATO headquarters on Monday,” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said.
