The village of Blatten in Switzerland’s Lötschental Valley was destroyed by a massive landslide caused by a glacier collapse from the Alps. Authorities confirmed that the village was evacuated on May 19 and that one person remains missing. “We have lost our village. The village is under rubble. We will rebuild,” said Blatten Mayor Matthias Bellwald. Thousands of tons of ice and mud buried the area. The village had a population of around 200.
