Syrians gathered at Damascus’s Umayyad Mosque to mark one year since the fall of the Assad regime. President Ahmed al-Shara, wearing military fatigues, joined morning prayers and was warmly welcomed by the crowd.
In a brief sermon, al-Shara called for unity in rebuilding the country, saying, “With God’s permission, we will overcome all difficulties together.” He vowed to restore Syria “from north to south.”
Al-Shara recently opened an exhibition featuring a Kaaba Cover Piece gifted by Saudi Arabia. He became president after opposition forces toppled Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.
