Syrian Refugee Grateful to Türkiye Returns Home

Ekrem Mahmut, a Syrian Turkmen who lived in Türkiye for 12 years, has returned to Damascus after the regime’s fall. Now working as a shoe shiner, Mahmut expressed gratitude to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, saying, “He cared for us, may God bless him.”

Calling on Syrians in Türkiye to return, Mahmut stated, “Syria is free now, and great things will happen. Those with jobs and means should come back.” He recounted fleeing persecution and imprisonment under the Assad regime and praised Türkiye for its support during the war.
