Syrians Celebrate Freedom at Historic Umayyad Mosque

Following the overthrow of the Assad regime, crowds have gathered at Damascus’ 1,310-year-old Umayyad Mosque to celebrate their freedom with prayers. Historian Zafer Bilgi highlighted the mosque’s significance, stating it is believed to be the site where Hazrat Jesus will descend, uniting religious texts and believers near the end of times, as referenced in Islamic teachings.

Opened for worship in 714, the Umayyad Mosque remains a symbol of Damascus’ rich history.
