After 15 years of closure under the Bashar Assad regime, Mount Qasioun in Damascus has reopened, drawing Syrian visitors eager to enjoy panoramic views of the capital. The site, once heavily restricted for its strategic importance, now serves as a popular destination where locals drink tea, take photos, and reflect on newfound freedoms.
The mountain had been closed by the Assad regime due to its strategic location overlooking Damascus and nearby palaces. During the conflict, it was used for military deployments and artillery targeting opposition-held areas, including Eastern Ghouta.
Visitors expressed gratitude to Türkiye for its support and shared their excitement over regaining access to the site.
