Thousands gathered across Syria to celebrate one year since the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime. In Damascus, large crowds filled Umayyad Square, where fireworks, music, and waving Syrian flags marked the occasion. Security measures were tightened and several roads were closed.
Assad’s regime collapsed in December 2024 after a rapid opposition offensive that captured Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, and finally Damascus. Assad fled to Russia, and opposition leader Ahmed al-Shara became president.
