Syria’s Khalid ibn al-Walid Mosque Reopens for Pray

The Hazrat Khalid ibn al-Walid Mosque and his tomb in Homs, Syria, destroyed during the 13-year civil war, have been rebuilt and reopened. Located in Al Shuhada Square amid widespread destruction, the Ottoman-era structure was reconstructed over seven years through the efforts of an anonymous benefactor.

The mosque and shrine, dedicated to Khalid ibn al-Walid, a revered commander from the companions (Assahaba) of the Prophet Muhammad period, have been drawing visitors since reopening on December 8. Hundreds of Syrians visit the site during weekends to pray at the tomb.
