Tension rose in the Taiwanese parliament after after the two opposition parties, the Nationalist Party and the Taiwan People’s Party, introduced a bill that would pave the way for the parliament to gain more control over the government and include a proposal to criminalize MPs who are thought to have made false statements in parliament. The verbal debate that started after the ruling Democratic Progressive Party MPs opposed the bill turned into a physical turmoil. Meanwhile, Guo Guowen, a member of the ruling party, took the documents containing the bill and ran away.
Five members were hospitalized.
