Taiwanese students build human-powered submarine

Students of the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Systems and Marine Mechatronics Engineering department in Taiwan built a human-powered submarine. The submarine was named Sat-bak-hi, which means milkfish.

In the statement made by the university, it was stated that the construction phase of the 3-meter-long submarine, made of fiber-reinforced plastic, took 2 years. The submarine weighs 100 kilograms and cost approximately one million new Taiwan dollars (Approximately $33,000).

Wang Dan-hsu, one of the students working on the project, said that they will participate in the European International Submarine Races (EISR) to be held in England in July with the submarine that has a speed of 9.26 kilometers per hour.
