Texas Declares Emergency as Wildfires Devour 370,000 Acres

Widespread wildfires in five areas of Texas have led to the destruction of over 370,000 acres of land, triggering a state of emergency. The Smokehouse Creek fire alone, scorching at least 300,000 acres, ranks as the state’s fifth-largest forest fire. Emergency responders from Greenville faced peril as they navigated through reduced visibility caused by heavy smoke. The situation prompted evacuations, including livestock from endangered areas, while the Pantex defense company’s Texas factory, specializing in nuclear weapons, temporarily halted operations. Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced the emergency declaration to address the escalating wildfire crisis
