Thailand Heatwave Claims 38 Lives

Thailand has witnessed at least 38 deaths attributed to a prolonged heatwave, surpassing seasonal norms. The country’s Deputy Ministry of Health, Dr. Atthapol Kaewsamrit, highlighted that most victims were outdoor workers, individuals with health conditions, and the elderly. With temperatures soaring above 40 degrees in several provinces, authorities from Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention issued warnings for 12 provinces, urging precautions and advising against outdoor activities during noon.

Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, experienced record-breaking temperatures, with some areas reaching a scorching 54 degrees. Experts link this heatwave to climate change, noting delays in the rainy season, which typically begins in May.
