On 27 December, Thailand and Cambodia had signed a ceasefire after weeks of deadly clashes. After the agreement, Thailand released 18 Cambodian soldiers who had beedn detained for 155 days. The soldiers handed over to the Cambodian military at the Ban Pak Kad border crossing in Chanthaburi province, under the supervision of the joint committee involving ASEAN and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) .
The Thai Foreign Ministry stated that the soldiers underwent medical examinations before their released and were safely reuterned to their country.
Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow warned both sides to avoid any escalation following ceasefire the signed, noting process remaine fragile.
Cambodian PM welcomed warmly soldiers
Cambodian PM Hun Manet warmly welcomed the soldiers at the border, saying “Welcome back to the country”.
Cambodian soldiers were arrested duing the heavy clashes on 29 December in Thailand’s Sisaket province.
