Thailand Shines with Colorful Floating Lantern Festival

Thailand celebrated its traditional Loy Krathong, or Floating Lantern Festival, with dazzling colors and lights on November 5. Locals gathered by rivers and lakes to release handmade lanterns, or “krathongs,” into the water with prayers.

This year’s celebrations highlighted eco-friendly designs, with bread and chip-based lanterns that don’t harm aquatic life. Tourists also joined in the festivities across Bangkok and along the Chao Phraya River.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul attended the main ceremony in Bangkok, dedicating the event to the late Queen Mother Sirikit and urging respect for both nature and the nation’s mourning period.
