The trial of first Russian soldier begins in Ukraine

For the first time, trial of a Russian soldier for war crimes begins in Ukraine. Accused of killing the 62-year-old civilian man in the city of Sumi, 21 year-old Russian soldier Vadim Shishimarin was brought to the courtroom in Kyiv with great security measures. The trial was flooded with journalists as Shishimarin was seated in a glass enclosure. The Russian soldier’s lawyer, Viktor Ovsyannikov told that his client will decide later whether to plead guilty or not. The trial of Shishimarin, who was in duty at 32010 military unit of the 4th Tank Kantemirov Division of the Moscow Region, was postponed to May. It’s stated that the Russian soldier could be sentenced to 10 to 15 years or life imprisonment.
