Thousands in France Marched Against Violence Against Women

Thousands of people marched in the French capital, Paris, today on the occasion of the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.” Demonstrators wearing purple clothes, which is considered the color of women and gender equality, carried banners with phrases such as “A sexual assault every 6 minutes in France” and “Protect your daughters, educate your boys,” regardless of the cold weather. Some of the demonstrators called on the government to allocate a larger budget and change the justice system to stop violence against women.

“It is not inevitable that violence against women will continue. We must put an end to this, and we will do it,” stated French President Emmanuel Macron on social media.
