At least 11,000 people have left the Greek tourist island of Santorini via ferries and airplanes following hundreds of earthquakes near the Cyclades Islands in the Aegean Sea since Saturday.
Schools will be closed until tomorrow on Santorini, as well as on the neighboring islands of Anafi, Paros, Naxos and Mykonos.
“First of all, our state trusts science and scientists. We have done this in other crises. All plans have been put into practice. Teams have been sent to Santorini and other islands. So we are ready for any eventuality. We will continue with the hope that things will get better,” Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated yesterday.
The head of the Greek Organization for Earthquake Protection and Planning (OASP), Efthymios Lekkas, reported that a total of more than 100 earthquakes have occurred since 12:30 yesterday.
