Thousands of Muslims in the Syrian capital of Damascus performed the Eid prayer in the square where the Unknown Soldier Monument is located southwest of Qasiyun Mountain.
The importance of traditions and the victory of the Syrian people was emphasized in the Eid sermon.
Ali Türkmen, 37, one of the Syrians who performed the Eid prayer, stated that he had previously felt fear while performing the prayer and that this was the first time he performed the prayer in this square after Assad was overthrown.
“Today, we are celebrating three things: Eid, freedom and the establishment of a new government that has won the appreciation of the people,” said Prof. Dr. Abdülmecid Yusuf from Damascus University.
The security forces and soldiers provided security for the congregation celebrating Eid.
