Thousands Protest Deadly Train Crash in Greece

Thousands gathered in Athens to protest the 2023 train accident in Tempi, which killed 57 people. Organized by the Tempi Accident Victims’ Relatives Association and supported by unions and civil groups, approximately 50,000 demonstrators called for justice and accountability.

Protesters carried signs reading “We will not forget” and chanted, “They talk about profit and loss, we talk about human life.” Although the protest was largely peaceful, clashes with police resulted in 12 arrests and two injuries.

The February 28, 2023, crash occurred when a passenger train carrying 352 people collided with a freight train, reportedly due to negligence. Despite nearly two years passing, families accuse authorities of stalling investigations and evidence cover-ups. No arrests have been made, and the cause of death for many victims remains undetermined.
