The efforts of planes, fire brigade, civil defense teams, fire crisis committee and the public to extinguish the forest fire that started in Mersinlik village of Kantara in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on 21 June, are continues. Meanwhile last night, the flames were extinguished thanks to the heavy rain that started around Nicosia and Kyrenia. “We are very happy with the news that the fire went out with the rain in the Zambak Holiday Village, where the Crisis Center was gathered in order to prevent the spread of the fire in Tatlısu and extinguish it. Get well soon to all of us, and thank you very much to everyone who participated in the extinguishing efforts under extraordinary conditions,” TRNC President Ersin Tatar said in his statement on his social media account.
TRNC Forestry Department Director Cemil Karzaoğlu stated that the fire is mostly extinguished, and that smoke rose only at one point in the Kantara Ardahan region of İskele area.
