traffic halted in Suez canal after oil tanker crashed into stranded LNG tanker

A Singapore-flagged liquefied natural gas tanker called ‘BW Lesmes’ ran aground yesterday evening in Egypt’s Suez Canal, which is one of the important transit points for world trade. Following the incident, an oil tanker named “Burri” from the Cayman Islands crashed into the ship. The owner of BW Lesmes stated that the tanker was not damaged and that it sailed again at midnight. The traffic in the canal continued as normal.

In 2021, the traffic in the canal was halted in both directions for six days, and global trade was disrupted as a massive container ship, named “Ever Given” ran aground.
