Truck Backlog at Türkiye-Georgia Border Blocks Traffic

Heavy truck congestion at Türkiye’s Sarp Border Gate with Georgia, the main route to the Caucasus and Central Asia, is causing significant delays. Trucks, waiting to cross into Georgia from Artvin, have lined the Black Sea Coastal Road, creating traffic disruptions across Kemalpaşa, Hopa, and Arhavi districts. With parking areas full or fees high, drivers are forced to wait roadside for 3-5 days.

Azerbaijani driver Ulvi Memmedor expressed frustration, saying, “We wait 4-5 days, often without restroom access, and struggle to rest on the roadside.” The delays reportedly stem from a new processing system implemented on the Georgian side of the border.
