Truck Protests Block EU Borders Over Schengen Visas

Truck drivers transporting goods from Western Balkan countries to Europe blocked more than 20 European Union border crossings to protest Schengen visa restrictions, causing kilometers-long queues. Hundreds of drivers, including those from Türkiye, have been stranded for days, with Turkish driver Ali Kurt saying he waited 75 hours at the Batina crossing to Croatia as trucks were barred from passing. Kurt said basic needs have become a serious problem, adding, “Those 4 kilometers behind us can’t even access toilets,” while theft and security concerns have risen at night. He also said no official information has been provided, stressing, “There is no unrest, no confrontation with police — we are still waiting.”
