US President Donald Trump’s entrance to the UN General Assembly in New York was disrupted when the escalator he and First Lady Melania Trump were riding suddenly stopped. Both walked the rest of the way upstairs. Later, Trump also faced a prompter failure during his speech, joking that “the two things the UN provided were a bad escalator and a bad prompter.”
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said the stoppage may have been caused by a US cameraman accidentally triggering the escalator’s safety mechanism. The White House said it is investigating whether the incident was deliberate.
