White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said Trump viewed Machado as a courageous voice for many Venezuelans and wanted to discuss the situation in the country. She added that Trump’s earlier view that Machado lacks the political standing to govern Venezuela remains unchanged. After the meeting, Machado greeted supporters gathered outside the White House.
